Fair Acres Volunteer Office recruits and coordinates the activities of individual and group volunteers, who serve in almost any capacity in which they would like to volunteer. Some volunteers work on their own, others in pairs or in teams. Some work directly with residents and others in office activities or retail operations such as the gift shop or traveling gift cart.

Volunteers have been absolutely essential to the success of our annual “Spring Fair,” Fair Acres biggest annual fund raising event.

Here are just some examples of what you can do as a volunteer at Fair Acres:

  • Help conduct our ever-popular bingo games
  • Help decorate units at holiday time
  • Provide entertainment and assistance at parties
  • Conduct discussion sessions or reading groups
  • Assist staff members escorting residents on outings, such as to the mall, movies, restaurants or sporting events
  • Hold Bible study sessions, transport residents to religious services or make pastoral care visits.
  • Knit or crochet items at home, such as sweaters, afghans, scarves or baby sets. These
items can be used by the residents or sold in our gift shop. We even provide the yarn!
  • Bring your gentle pet or certified therapy dog for you a visit – the residents love four-legged friends!

Volunteers are welcome to help almost anytime they are available. Most group activities at Fair Acres are scheduled in the afternoon, although bingo games are held in the morning. Trips and outings usually last from mid-morning until mid-afternoon. Help is also needed for gathering residents for entertainment on weekday evenings but whenever you can help, however you can help, your efforts are most welcome!

Volunteers already involved in service organizations, youth groups, scouting, women’s clubs, etc, and schools with student clubs or classes are invited to bring groups to Fair Acres to interact with residents.
